WASHINGTON HEIGHTS (West 155th Street to 191st Street, between the Hudson and Harlem Rivers)
Scale the Heights and you will find one of the most affordable areas of Manhattan. A large stock of Art Deco styled apartment buildings offers spacious interiors often with stunning views of the Hudson River. It is a lively area with a discernible Dominican beat. Families, students and professionals, who often trade in Lower Manhattan one-bedroom rentals to buy three and four bedroom units for almost unheard of value, populate the area. The natural hilly typography might make joining a gym unnecessary; Fort Tryon and Hudson River Parks are big elements in the area's perceived livability.
